How to Use Google Keyword Planner
In my experience, one of the hardest things for a business to accomplish is effective marketing on Google. Done well, it can bring in a torrential downpour of new clients. Alternatively, without critical pieces of knowledge, Google advertising yields few, if any, new leads.
The secret to attracting new clients begins with keyword planning. I use Google Keyword Planner to identify keywords with the highest likelihood of attracting new clients.
Ready to learn how to use it? Let’s go!
Step One: select one of two options for Google Keyword Planner: ‘Discover New Keywords’ or ‘Get Search Volume and Forecasts’. If you already have keywords in mind, choose ‘Get Search Volume and Forecasts’. If you need high-performing keywords, select ‘Discover New Keywords’.
Step Two: type relevant keywords for your business. For example, an auto business might use the following keywords or phrases: new tires, used tires, engine rebuild, transmission, cars, or car sale. Press ‘Enter’ after each keyword or phrase.
Step Three: Analyze the results. On this page, there are several keyword possibilities and a series of columns. Below is a screenshot of several keyword ideas provided by Google Keyword Planner. Note there are columns for year over year (YoY) change and competition. YoY compares monthly search volume of the latest month with the same month of the previous year.
